A Brief History of GSG

1965
GSG is founded by the Land Berlin, the Berlin Handwerkskammer (Chamber of Skilled Crafts) and the Industrie- und Handelskammer (IHK, Chamber of Commerce and Industry).

1966
The first Gewerbehof (group of small commercial enterprises settled around an interior courtyard) is purchased in Blücherstrasse in Berlin-Kreuzberg.

1970
GSG constructs its first new building by way of consolidating its property at Prinzessinnenstrasse 19-20, Berlin-Kreuzberg.

1980
The first free-standing new building isconstructed by GSG in Wupperstrasse in Berlin-Zehlendorf.

1985
The first Technologie- und Innovationspark (technology and information center) in Germany settles in the GSG-HOF Gustav-Meyer-Allee.  The Berliner Innovations- und Gründerzentrum (BIG, Berlin Innovation and New Business Center) is also located here.

1994
The foundation stone for the GSG-HOF in Pankow is laid on October 10th.

1995
The first GSG project is realized in eastern Berlin: a group of buildings to house small commercial enterprises is constructed in Wolfener Strasse 36, Marzahn-Hellersdorf.

2001
The GSG shares owned by the Land Berlin are taken over by Investitionsbank Berlin (IBB).

2002
The first WirtschaftsPartnerTag (Day of Economic Partnership) is held in the Haus der WirtschaftsPartner (House of Economic Partnership) in the GSG-HOF at Wolfener Strasse 32-36.  This office, combining many varied services under one roof, is unique in its concept for promoting the economic development of Berlin.
 
2002
The renovation of the historical ensemble of the Königliche Porzellan-Manufaktur (KPM, Royal Porcelain Factory) is completed; this project marks a high point in the 40 year history of sanitation and refurbishment work done by GSG.

2004
The European TelematicsFactory (ETF) is inaugurated, the competence center for mobility and IT applications serving mobility.  It is situated in the newly constructed gatehouse of the GSG-HOF in Helmholtzstrasse 2-9, Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf.

2007
The GSG shares owned by the Land Berlin are taken over by the publicly owned subsidiary of Orco Property Group (Orco), Orco Germany.  This transaction was implemented together with Morgan Stanley Real Estate.
